Lemang: A glutinous rice in bamboo that made Kijal famous

Lemang is a traditional snack of Malaysia. It is made of soaked glutinous rice with coconut milk wrapped in babana leaf and put into the bamboo (cut into 2 feet). The bamboo is then heated on fire for a few hours to cook the rice inside. When it is cooked, you need to cut the bamboo to get the lemang inside. Lemang  is eaten or served with sambal daging or serunding. It is always serve during festival like Hari Raya


 The wood is used to cook the lemang.

In Kijal, Kemaman, there are stop over stalls that sell lemang every day. So, it is not seasonal. The stall are located along the road to Chukai from Kuala Terengganu (at both sides). If you are on your way to Kuantan, you can stop at the left stalls or if your are from Chukai to Kuala Terengganu, certainly you have to stop on your left stalls too. Stop at the stall and choose your lemang. It is open every day from morning until late evening. The price are reasonable. Many tourists made special effort to stop at these Kijal stalls to buy lemang for their friends or relatives. Happy travelling.
