Sultan Mahmud Bridge: A bridge that links the airport and the city

Terengganu river (at its mouth) used to have one bridge over it (the Manir bridge). In 1986, a new bridge was constructed over the Terengganu river with its starting point starts in Padang Hiliran and ends in Kampong Serdang Baru. The whole package ended at Batu Enam Roundabout. It connects the city with Duyong Island, Seberang Takir and the airport.

Sultan Mahmud Bridge, viewed from the river mouth. It needs widening. If it is turned into a draw bridge, it can enhance the navigation of larger boats to upper course of the river.

With this bridge, it gives the people an alternative to cross the river. This bridge is named Sultan Mahmud Bridge. Now, it is a short cut route to the airport as  it saves distance travel and time. However, during the festive season like long holiday or Hari Raya, this bridge will be congested with vehicles as many people (Terengganu natives) all over the country celebrates their holiday with relatives here.

The scenery adjacent to the bridge is superb. You can see the beautiful  river front (partly rejuvenated) and the Crystal Mosque at Pulau Wan Man. However, there is not enough space for you to park your vehicles on the bridge as to allow you to get out of your vehicles and take the pictures. I feel there is a need to create spaces for the public or tourists to take their pictures with these scenic background.  Some people suggest this bridge could be turned into a draw bridge which can be lifted up like the ones in London (Tower Bridge).  With the draw bridge, it allows large boats to sail  to upper course of Terengganu river and its tributary and facilitate the relocation of the ship building industry. Happy travelling.
