University : A new sustainable tourism in Terengganu?

There are two public universities in Kuala Terengganu: Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and Universti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA). Both are located in Gong Badak (20km north of the city centre) and they are close to each other. They are also close to the beautiful beach of Mengabang Telipot. The students are from various places in Malaysia, some even come from other countries.

Assuming 20,000 students are here, certainly they demand the various services that both the government and the public have to satisfy. The services includes transport, food, accommodation, bookshops and printing, telecommunication, recreation, entertainment etc.

There are at least two firms that operate rent a car service here (targeting at the students). Restaurants are mushrooming here and at night they are decorated with colourful lights. Lodge or home stays accommodation are here too.

Another spot at UMT campus.

University's annual convocation is also making Kuala Terengganu experienced a sudden influx of visitors. These visitors  are considered tourists because they spent their money here. Similarly, international conferences and conventions organised by the universities draw large number of  intellectuals from various places. And that too has boost the state economy.

Knowing Terengganu environment which is peaceful, beautiful and lovely people, perhaps you may want to send your children to continue their studies in these universities. Happy Learning.
